THE BEC TAYLOR SCHOOL OF MUSIC

the bandmates program

Unleash your inner rockstar!

In small groups of 5-8, our 60-minute weekly Bandmates classes are general music lessons that follow our specialised BTSoM Curriculum.

As a team, students will focus on the core areas of craft, creativity and community to learn to understand and make music together as bandmates. Songwriting, theory, performing, improvising, rhythm, melody, music-reading and ear skills are all covered in these age-specific Bandmates groups. These classes focus on general musical skills, rather than specific instrumental skills, and are best taken in combination with a private lesson.

Our Bandmates Juniors focus on learning musical craft, how to be creative, and how to connect positively with each other and the wider community. Over the year, they will cover the building blocks of songwriting, theory, performing, improvising, rhythm, melody, music-reading and ear skills, and learn how to be creative. Working as a team every week, our bandmates will develop interpersonal skills, ready to connect with the wider community.

Our Bandmates Teens focus on learning musical craft, writing songs and improvising, and playing and learning as a community, within a community. Over the program our Bandmates Teens will progress through the levels of craft of songwriting theory and practice, performing and improvising, rhythm, melody, music-reading and ear skills, and will learn how to be creative. Working as a team every week, Bandmates Teens will develop interpersonal skills, and connect with the community through performing, recording and doing community projects like playing at nursing homes.

Our Bandmates Icons and Bandmates Heroes are challenged to reach their full potential through these inclusive and enriching groups. Taught by our lead teachers, these groups focus on stretching the core areas of musical craft, creativity and community to develop their skills as musicians. They begin to look at the music industry and business skills and develop further their craft of performing, songwriting and music theory.

Our aim is to have our senior Bandmates groups performing in the community and undertaking a community development project each year to learn to give back.
