school holiday programs

NEXT BANDCAMP IS OCTOBER 2024.

Please email team@bectaylormusic to register your interest. Limited spots are available.

Bandcamp is a jam-packed five day holiday workshop to supercharge kids’ musical skills. A rockin’ way to enjoy the school holidays, Bandcamp finishes with a gig in a live music venue where every kid will play in a band.

They’ll learn songs, rehearse songs, play in a band, learn songwriting building blocks, investigate modern music history, and perform on stage an a real venue.

Bandcamp is an exciting opportunity for those students who want to enhance their musical education and use their school holidays effectively. We’ve designed Bandcamp to get kids playing, singing, rehearsing and performing, in a nurturing environment where they will gain new skills, new friends and a new-found confidence in themselves.

Bandcamp is structured into four core sessions every day:

  • Songwriting 101: Learning the foundational elements of songwriting: the theory behind the songs.

  • Jam to Band: rehearsing with a band takes skill and teamwork. This session will see students learning songs in their band groups while being guided by teachers.

  • Wrote it Note it: this is where students get to use the ideas they have learned and put them into practice: write a song as a band

  • Standing on the Shoulders of Giants: this session is where we learn about seminal musicians and artists and discover what makes them so great, and learn their secrets to success.

These four focuses will ensure all areas of the modern musician are exercised and challenged. Every day, all students undertake each session in different themes each day. Day one focusses on chords, day two on structure and day three on melody and lyrics. Day four is rehearsal and mastery, followed by the performance.

The days are book-ended by pedagogical routines that support and consolidate the learning of the day. When students arrive, they begin with a calm briefing session and musical games and singing that awakens their aural and kinesthetic senses to prepare them for the day ahead. At the end of the day, students complete verbal and written reflections of the learning of the day, and then engage in a teacher-led group discussion that consolidates learning and builds positive team culture within the group. Finally, there is a musical pop quiz to build self-confidence and consolidate knowledge to teach the family!

Prerequisite: at least 6 months experience learning an instrument
