Lil’ Bandmates is the ultimate taster class for children in primary school years 2 & 3, where they will learn the basics of keys, drumming, guitar and singing in a small-group learning environment. Every class is energetically jam-packed with instrument-learning, group music making, and musical building blocks. Avoid sinking years into private lessons without knowing which instrument they love; let the kids decide!

What is Lil’ Bandmates?

Designed by the Bec Taylor School to serve our youngsters, Lil’ Bandmates is unique in how it delivers multi-instrumental learning outcomes in a structured small-group learning environment.

Why group classes?

We’ve noticed that kids this age want to play and learn music, but they don’t know what instrument to pick. So they may start with piano lessons… get bored and switch to guitar and then decide to do drums later. Parents spend time and money on private lessons, only to find that their child wants to actually do singing lessons! We know. We see this happen time and time again.

That’s why we created a new class that is designed to give kids basic instrumental skills in guitar, keys, drumming and singing so that after two years they can make an informed choice for which instrument to specialise in and really pursue.

What do they learn?

In Lil’ Bandmates, kids learn in dynamic 60-minute weekly classes in small groups, in a highly structured curriculum. They learn a few instruments each week, moving between keyboard, guitar, drumming and singing frequently. Within this energetic and constantly engaging learning environment, kids develop versatility, resilience, and an ability to adapt their musical skills to different instruments and settings: an essential skill in modern music industry.

This innovative approach not only develops instrumental skills, but also consolidates the fundamental concepts of music such as rhythm, melody, music and chord reading, and the social and emotional skills needed to play music in their futures.

This class is designed to build on skills acquired in Lil’ Rockers, and scaffolds the development of skills needed for Bandmates Juniors, starting in Year 4.
